| Yayorin at Lamandau River Wildlife Reserve |
|
Some knowledge we will introduce are the importance of Lamandau River Wildlife Reserve as a buffer area that prevents the entry of salt water from the ocean, as well as the freshwater source for communities. In addition, we will also play a role on distributing knowledge about the forest as well as about Lamandau River Wildlife Reserve, the surrounding forest areas and its peat swamps that are important in trapping CO2 and as the source of oxygen. Using simple language and to-the-point information, we will introduce what carbon is and how dangerous if it is released to the atmosphere in large quantity. Moreover, we will also encourage people on how to participate on preventing field and forest fires around Lamandau River Wildlife Reserve. It is our wish that the communities’ attitude on forest conservation for the sustainability of life will be increased, as well as on how field burning can bring serious threat for nature and people. Knowledge on how to use and manage land wisely will also become our mission for the farmers. In the long run, we hope that the farmers will reduce their slash-and-burn agriculture practices. This is our story for now; support us in creating positive change. (ESA)
